Assisted Intelligence at the Service of Caregivers: Toward a Connected Care Ecosystem
Pascal Staccini
This article traces the evolution of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare, from early expert systems to today’s deep-learning techniques. Rather than replacing clinicians, AI acts as a valuable co-pilot, able to analyze vast volumes of data to suggest diagnostic leads, inform therapeutic decisions, and anticipate patient needs, all within a demanding ethical and regulatory framework. At the heart of this transformation, the patient journey is profoundly reshaped. Conversational agents and natural-language-processing tools structure the medical interview, detecting subtle signals and guiding rapid, targeted examinations. Computer-vision algorithms, applied to radiology or chronic wound healing, identify anomalies almost imperceptible to the human eye. Telehealth platforms integrate intelligent questionnaires and automated dashboards to monitor chronic conditions remotely, while maintaining close ties with care teams. Meanwhile, treatment personalization finely adjusts dosages and predicts drug interactions, and continuous-monitoring systems generate predictive alerts to ensure enhanced vigilance over vital signs. Behind the scenes, AI revolutionizes workflow management and team coordination. By automating the traceability of care activities and generating quality indicators, it provides a clear view of performance and risk. Pilot-project approaches, combined with audit and training phases, ensure gradual scaling and collective ownership. Looking ahead, biometric sensors, augmented reality, digital twins, and generative AI draw new frontiers for early detection and epidemiological prevention. Mastering algorithmic bias, preserving system interoperability, and clarifying clinical responsibility remain essential to ensure that these innovations benefit patients and caregivers with full confidence.

AI in Hospitals : A One-Shot Solution or a Strategic Plan ?
Pascal Staccini
What if artificial intelligence (AI) primarily exposes the inconsistencies in our organizational architectures? While businesses celebrate the rise of a “data-driven” culture and hospitals multiply proofs of concept for embedding AI in care processes, the lack of a shared strategic vision often turns these projects into technological toys disconnected from actual caregiving. This article traces the evolution of thinking around AI integration in the hospital sector. It begins by comparing AI deployment logics in industry versus healthcare, then highlights the distinction and interplay between data management and knowledge management within hospital information systems. Next, it explores the impact of generative AI on electronic document management (EDM), and finally lays out the arguments for and against creating a dedicated AI master plan for hospitals. The article concludes by calling for a hybrid governance model—combining targeted planning with overall coherence—to turn technological innovation into tangible benefits for professionals (accountability) and patients (safety).
